A drunk driver lost control of their car on the highway sunday night and tboned into me while I was driving home from my grandfathers house in seattle.
After getting out of my car on the side of the highway and had police arrive, I found out the guy was drunk and was carrying a firearm which is a criminal offence if im correct. the officer gave me an extange of information sheet and took the guy away. After, I had to call a tow truck after because my car was not functioning electrically and did not get home till about three in the morning since I had the tow driver drop me off the highway asap because of how expensive they were and just ended up signing up for AAA and calling them instead and of course it took them 4 hours to get to where I was due to how backed up they were at the time of the accident.
The car slid into the dirt and not into traffic thankfully and I am ok but the car is totaled. The entire left side of the vehicle has body damage and the front bumper is close to falling off. The drivers door only opens a little, enough to just be able to get in and out, the left tail light is shattered and sometime after the accident the cars electrical system started to function again, but still all messed up because half of the things that worked before the accident, the ac/heater, most of my lights, guages for example, did not function anymore and whenever i started the car, It makes bad noise and a burning smell.
The morning after the accident, I called up insurance with the information the officer gave me and found out that the drunk driver did not have insurance since 2019 and the insurance information the officer gave me turned out to be old. This means i cannot make an insurance claim against the guy to have his insurance come either repair my vehicle or buy it from me and since i only have liability insurance, I cannot have it repaired by geico.
what stings the most is that I being 16, I had just got my drivers license no less than two weeks ago on the 20th of october and had poured my heart and soul into the volvo with the small amount of money I have working minimum wage while also being in school, ended up being totaled by a drunk driver, and now i am pretty much fucked because he did not have insurance.
