My sister's husband, Ron has been battling Stage 4 Cancer since 2020. In July of 2020, Ron was diagnosed with Stage 4 Soft Tissue Ewing Sarcoma. Soon after he underwent surgery to remove a 6-inch tumor followed by 14 rounds of chemotherapy. In September of 2021 he underwent another surgery to remove remaining tumors.
Unfortunately, in February of 2022, a follow-up scan revealed that not all the tumors were removed so he underwent another 6 more rounds of chemotherapy.
His most recent scan in January 2023 has now revealed an additional diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndromes. Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) are conditions that can occur when the blood-forming cells in the bone marrow become abnormal. This leads to low numbers of one or more types of blood cells. MDS is considered a type of cancer that developed because of previous treatments. Treatment for this new diagnosis will require a stem cell transplant that is scheduled for May 5th. The on-going medical costs and recent diagnosis which will prevent Ron from working is causing a significant financial burden. Ron will be hospitalized a minimum of 3-4 weeks after the transplant. He will also be out of work for a minimum of 6 months and could be up to a year.
Ron has been incredible throughout his ordeal. He has continued to work whenever he is strong enough to in between his chemo treatments. He tries to get his appointments in the mornings so he can work in the afternoon – yes, the same day!
It is very humbling to have to ask your friends and family for help, and we understand if you cannot, but if you can, we would be incredibly appreciative. Ron is the main "bread winner" of the family so my sister could really use your help; she does not make enough money to pay the mortgage, utilities, and food with her income alone. Please help if you can so they can stay in their house.
Ron’s sister in-law Tara Bodell is the organizer of this fundraising. All proceeds will go directly to Ron and Amanda.
