APRIL 17TH: We have several important updates to share this week.
🏡 Settling Into Their New Home
Dan has been busy organizing his new home, making sure everything has a place and that the space feels comfortable and functional. It’s been a lot of work, but he’s making real progress and taking pride in every step. We even caught him vacuuming the outdoor rug outside.
🐾 Bentley’s Heartworm Treatment
Bentley received his first heartworm injection and handled it like a champ. He’s been tired — which is expected — and he’s staying calm just as the vet ordered. This is a huge milestone in getting him healthy again and his last treatments, will be 1 month from now.
💡 Electrical Fixes
We were able to fix the electrical short, and now we just need to replace one light fixture to finish that project completely. Thank you to Richard for the help!!!
📝 Social Security Challenges
We wish we had better news here.
Dan’s appointment this week ended with Social Security telling him they would not help him apply for SSI in person. He now has to wait for a phone appointment on May 11th, and they confirmed it will take at least six months to get benefits reinstated once the application is submitted.
The one small positive:
Dan was able to change his address, and we finally learned where his missing checks were sent. We are hoping they arrive before early next week, because these checks are critical — we will be short on pad rent every month until SSI is back in place.
🩺 Looking Ahead
We have several medical appointments next week, and we’ll keep pushing through every challenge as it comes.
