Many of us have been touched by the humble and selfless love that Dan (a kind homeless gentleman in the Arnold/Imperial area) has for his dog Bentley.  As i posted questions about his story, I was struck by the fact that every single person noted how kind he is, that he does not ASK for help, and that his dog Bentley is his best friend.

We are raising funds to help support hotel stays and/or potentially housing if the funds allow to help him get on his feet.  Funds can also be used for gift cards, dog food, essential health supplies, etc.

Hello everyone, and thank you for your patience with me last week. We have a lot happening behind the scenes, and I’m grateful for this community that continues to show up with so much love.

We are currently awaiting the review of Dan’s SSI appeal, and while the timeline is unpredictable, we’re keeping a positive outlook. Every step forward counts.

📰 One huge victory: Dan is now nearly 3 weeks smoke‑free. After decades of smoking, this is an incredible accomplishment and truly shows his determination to fight for his health.

Medically, Dan’s surgery went well overall, and he’s healing steadily. We’re now waiting for the next steps from the oncologist, who Dan will see at the end of the month.  We will provide an update after this point.

And Bentley… well, he has officially taken on the role of full‑time nurse. He hasn’t let Dan out of his sight and is making sure his dad stays right where he needs to be.

💙Thank you all for the love, prayers, and encouragement. This community continues to lift us up in ways we can never fully express.

💙 Friday Update — Dan’s Surgery & Holiday Weekend

Today was a big day. Dan had his lung surgery, and we’re relieved to share that he is finally settled into his room at Mercy Hospital off Ballas. The surgeon said he did well, and now we wait for the results on the lymph nodes. Dan is so grateful for every message, prayer, and well wish sent his way.

He’ll be at Mercy until Sunday or Monday in Room 4075 if anyone would like to stop by and visit. Your support truly lifts him up.

It’s going to be a bit of musical Bentley over the next few days, but he’s being such a good boy through all of this.

We also filed Dan’s SSI appeal this week. The timeline is… classic SSI — anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. At least it’s officially in motion.

Wishing all of you a safe and wonderful 4th of July weekend. Thank you for continuing to walk beside Dan and Bentley. This community means more than you know.

❤️💙

Another week in the books — even if there’s not much “new” to report. Pre‑op testing is done, prescriptions are picked up, Bentley is freshly bathed, and we’ve been working through our plans for when Dan is in the hospital. We’re grateful for another Friday, but the nerves for next week are definitely starting to creep in. Sending positive energy to all of you this weekend.

We’re ramping up plans for Dan’s surgery, and I’m so happy to share that we officially have a plan for Bentley every day and evening. He will be thoroughly spoiled and safely tucked away from those big, bad fireworks. 💙

The newest adventure has been trying to get an account set up on the SSA website to appeal his SSI amount. After multiple failed attempts, someone from the team will be taking him to the post office tomorrow for identity verification so we can finally move forward.

Bentley is acting more like himself again once his “quiet” period passes, and he and Dan have been enjoying some good walks together.

Smoking cessation is still in progress, but Dan has definitely cut back a lot, and we’re celebrating every step.

Wishing everyone a blessed weekend — hopefully with a little time outside if the weather cooperates

😊 Happy Friday, everyone!

Believe it or not, this week has been… dare I say… quiet. I’m not sure whether to celebrate or knock on wood.

💙 Bentley is wrapping up his final stretch of “quiet time” after his heartworm treatment. He’s been such a trooper, and we’re thrilled to be nearing the finish line. One follow‑up in a few months and he should be officially in the clear.

Dan is still working on quitting smoking. He’s cut back a lot, and he and Jerry have a bet going — dinner is riding on it, so the stakes are HIGH.

And now for the question I know some of you are thinking: “Soooo… what’s going on with Social Security?”

🤦‍♀️One word: appeal.

The nutshell version: Dan was approved for SSI.

The “of course there’s a catch” version: they reduced it by at least a third because we helped him pay rent while he had no income. Now we have to prove he’s paying his rent himself so they can reconsider the amount.

😒 Government processes are like a maze where someone keeps moving the walls, but we keep going.

💙Thank you all for being here through every twist, turn, and quiet week in between. We are in the planning stages for Dan's surgery. More to come on that next week!
