Update, Sunday, February 1st
I posted expenses today and we have spent approx $5100 if you include hotel through March 9th. We met as a group on Friday night and are working hard to try to find permanent housing for Dan and Bentley such that they can be in a more permanent location by the March 9th timeframe. I will share a couple of things that are very important to us and Dan has said we can share this to help give context:
●Dan doesn’t have a car and we don’t know yet if he will be able to get a hardship license. He has been sober 5 years, but this is one of our challenges since he does not have a license. Therefore, central locations where he can walk to things are important.
●Because he is sober 5 years, we want to keep it that way, so we are being a bit picky on locations to be quite honest.
●Dan does want to work and has some options but we are managing cardiac/respiratory issues as he has had multiple heart attacks, has a pacemaker, and also has COPD.
We know that Dan really wants a place of his own… a mobile home or something but he knows he needs to be realistic. We have done some basic estimations, and believe that if we were to find him an apartment/duplex/etc, we would need to insure that we had enough funding to keep him there for approx. 6 months. This is because we don’t know for certain how long it will take to get his benefis in place again.
With rent, utilities, groceries, and misc expenses this may total approx. $1600/mo.
Based upon ALL of this, we are doing the below:
●I am raising our fundraising goal to $16,000 total. If we do not need what we raise because he gets benfits sooner or we raise more, we will plan to donate the extra funds to the James II Project as they support others in our area in need.
●Because we are keeping Dan and Bentley in the hotel, we are going to continue to be limited on space. We will post a grocery list each week of items he needs.
