We were burglarized!
These things happen. Sure, we wish they didn't, but people get desperate, disenfranchised, angry, or a million other things that drive people to crime. That's not at the core of this story.
What we at The Smoky Mug have been reminded over this last day is how incredible our community is!
There has been so much sympathy and compassion, and so much support for what we had envisioned we would be for our neighborhood - a lighthouse for friendliness, positive energy, and community (and of course great coffee and Tex-Mex)!
We've been asked over and over again how you can help - so here it is. While we hadn't planned this campaign, it certainly is a bummer to lose a brand new door (just installed!) and we are grateful for the support of our friends and neighborhood.
The Details:
The Smoky Mug's brand new front door was shattered at 10:38PM on Saturday July 24th and a burglar entered the premises at 10:51PM. This person stole cash from premises and left.
The Aftermath:
Owners and staff worked diligently early Sunday morning to clean and prepare the business for a regular open. We've since boarded the front door and are working to have it repaired/replaced. Our usual cozy space looks a little less awesome and we look a little less open.
The Plan:
With funds, we will repair our door, replace cash, subsidize any lost tips for staff, and continue to work to benefit our community. A spending report will be distributed to all donors at the conclusion of the campaign.
