Imagine finding out you’re going to be a father for the second time, the joy you feel, the plans you start to make, how happy you are, and then, imagine finding out that you have cancer, and everything is about to change!
Well, my grandson, Curtis, doesn’t have to imagine, it’s his reality; at the young age of 28.
Curtis grew up in a small town of Ramana, CA where he loved playing baseball. As he got older, he started working at Mountain Valley Ranch. This is where he touched hearts of many and made families smile, by helping them with family traditions. Leading little ones to pick out their favorite pumpkins on Halloween, assisting families when finding the perfect tree for Christmas, and so much more. Watching families over the years made Curtis realize that he too wanted the same.
Curtis moved to Texas a few years ago, where he found the love of his life, Teresa. Since meeting they have started their own family and had Isabela, who is now 18 months. Teresa and Curtis have been blessed again with another baby on the way. As they wait for the reveal of the sex, Curtis is also waiting for test results, treatments and surgery dates.
Months after finding out he is going to be a father for second time, he found out that he has a Dual Cancer, Duodenum & Mutation, which are extremely rare and deadly. Duodenal cancer is a cancer in the first section of the small intestine known as the duodenum. Cancer of the duodenum is relatively rare compared to stomach cancer and colorectal cancer. He will have to have a 'Whipple' procedure, which is a type of surgery that is sometimes possible with this cancer. In this procedure, the duodenum, a portion of the Pancreas (the head), and the gall bladder are usually removed, the small intestine is brought up to the Pylorus (the valve at the bottom of the stomach) and the liver and pancreatic digestive enzymes and bile are connected to the small intestine below the pylorus. Not only that, but Curtis is facing a dual cancer, meaning a cancer inside of the cancer cause by a Muatation from Epstein Bar Virus, which again, is extremely rare.
As Curtis and Teresa are preparing for a new little one, they are also preparing for Curtis to go through the fight of his life!
Curtis is going to have to go through months to years of chemo, tests, surgeries and much more, physically and mentally. During this time, he is going to need all the support he can get. He is not able to work, and this is starting to take a toll on his family financially. Especially, with a little one and one on the way; expected to arrive in August.
He shouldn’t have to worry about how the bills are going to get paid, where the diapers, formula or food are going to come from. So, this is the time that we can come together and help him financially; lift the burden off his shoulders so he can focus on getting healthy and well enough to go through all he is about to face.
So, it's crucial that we help Curtis KNOCK THIS CANCERS OUT OF THE BALLPARK! We are his TEAMMATES and WIN this FIGHT with him by helping him financially.
Please donate what you can, share this and pray for Curtis and his family!
