Born in 1953, Sheryl has led a life of helping others, serving in the military, and striving to make a difference in the world. Spending a majority of her career working at Braum's and serving the public, she eventually started her own business in security, performing background checks and other services for businesses and non-profits. Unfortunately, owning a small business comes with its downfalls, a big one being dependable health insurance coverage.
In 2018, Sheryl had liver failure leading to a transplant. In 2022 she had IVC surgery twice in 2 weeks, dying two times in surgery, coming back to find that doctors were unable to recover fragments that were left inside her body, potentially causing death. While in the ICU, she was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease, is now a diabetic and has AFIB. All of which insurance did not fully cover, leaving her with over $700,000.00 of debt. She borrowed what she could and paid back all those she borrowed from, struggling to maintain stability and sanity, lacking in funds to take care of basic human needs. Eventually, Sheryl achieved success and paid her debt, leaving her with very little to nothing to put toward retirement, draining all she had saved.
May of 2025 her story took an even greater turn for the worse. Sheryl felt discomfort and went back to the doctor for a checkup, only to find out that after her battle with liver failure and blood clots, colon cancer was now her next fight. No longer able to cover her expenses through private insurance and not able to receive military benefits, Sheryl is turning to the public she has dedicated her life in helping and asking for anything to help reduce the stress and overwhelming anguish of new medical debt.
Unsure just how much this journey will cost, Sheryl is not one to ask for a handout. If there is anything you can do to help fight the coming debt, she would be grateful and appreciative.
