Every year a group of friends, family, and neighbors works together to bring holiday cheer to people experiencing homelessness in the DC area. We communicate with area shelters to assess their needs, then we raise funds to buy warm winter items, toiletries, and a few sundries that are both festive and practical. Just $8 funds a complete care package: cold-weather items (socks, gloves, hat), toiletries, festive candy, and other sundries carefully wrapped with a holiday card. Volunteers wrap the care packages at our all-day event the Saturday before Christmas (this year will be Dec. 20), then volunteers from the EDCJCC distribute the care packages to DC-area emergency shelters on Christmas Day. This year we are starting our fundraising with the hope of compiling 600 packages at $8.00 a piece. If we raise more money, we can produce more packages; the need far exceeds what we are able to provide each year. This is our 14th year of organizing this project, and the community supporting it continues to grow. Please join us this year and help us meet or exceed our goal!
