Manhattan’s Greenwich Village is one of America’s most historic neighborhoods.
Greenwich Village has given rise to some of the most important artistic and social movements of the last 100 years. Full of cobblestone streets lined with trees and red brick townhouses, it’s also the most beautiful in NYC.
But the Village has not been immune to the wave of gentrification that has swept over NYC for the last 20 years. Its four zip codes ranked among the ten most expensive in the country, with real estate prices that have driven out many small businesses that have been Village mainstays for decades.
The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (or GVSHP) was founded in 1980 to preserve the architectural heritage and cultural history of the Village. GVSHP has successfully advocated for the landmark designation of more than 1,100 buildings in our neighborhoods, and has helped secure zoning protections for nearly 100 blocks.
Supporting the GVSHP can help preserve the unique character of this historic downtown NYC community. Join me!
