Frontier Allies (www.frontierallies.org) has partnered with Volunteers for Ukraine (https://volunteerforukraine.org) in a crucial fundraising campaign to raise $11,000 by June 24, 2023. The goal is to procure and ship 200 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) render-safe kits to support EOD operators in safely disarming bombs, landmines, and booby traps in Ukraine.
Currently, Ukrainian EOD graduates receive basic supplies such as wooden sticks and pliers, which are far less effective and more dangerous than EOD-specific tools like C4 punches and blasting cap crimpers. The next class of 200 students is set to graduate in July, and Frontier Allies (FA) and Volunteers for Ukraine (VfU) require two weeks ahead of the course start date, July 11, 2023, to ensure the equipment arrives in Lviv, Kyiv, and Dnipro in time.
A 2021 United Nations report highlighted that over 10,000 people worldwide were injured in 2020 by mines, IEDs, and unexploded ordnance, including artillery shells, cruise missiles, and bombs from airplanes. Ukraine faces a significant challenge, being one of the most heavily mined countries. Russia's recent destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in Kherson exacerbated this problem, with the water spreading mines throughout the region. Addressing this problem is of utmost importance.
This fundraiser is dedicated to honoring the memory of those who have suffered the devastating consequences of explosive threats in Ukraine, whether it be loss of life, limbs, or eyesight. Frontier Allies and Volunteers for Ukraine are committed to filling the specific needs where other charities may fall short. Any funds raised beyond our target will be allocated to new projects, ensuring sustained support for vital initiatives that save lives and make a lasting difference.
