I donate money monthly to help her get access to clean water, doctors, teachers, and tutors. I also have had the pleasure of being able to write back and forth with this sweet angel.
She's told me that for the past two years she could not feel the meaning of Christmas because her heart and mind are afraid of what's happening to the world. Ugh that crushed my heart to read.
Larisa loves to dance & draw. She drew me the cutest flower one time on the back of a letter that melted my heart.
I recently received a letter saying her family is struggling extra lately. The challenges and uncertainty brought by the pandemic have made life even harder for young ones like Larisa and her family. Her parents have been overwhelmed as they work to find new ways to provide even the most basic necessities such as food for their children.
These simple things that you and I may take for granted - like enough food for the day, or a safe place to sleep at night - remain a struggle.
Kids growing up in poverty in the Philippines face many difficulties, including a tough time finding employment due to lack of ability to get basic skills, high teen pregnancy rates and chronic malnutrition impacting their development.
Larisa's 12 birthday is coming up on May 23rd. I would love nothing more than to give her and her family more than I can give personally on my own.
