My friend of 13 years, turned recent fiancé and I moved back to Houston a couple weeks ago after years of travel and life individually. Having both separately lived and thrived here for years prior, we thought that Houston could be our starting place again, but together this time.

I’m a trained fine dining Chef, and his is in IT. We have both been in our fields for over a decade. Because of that, we have been offered well paying positions at Aramark, which is a MAJOR Culinary Group that has positions worldwide once you’re in, which can also bolster our future plan to live abroad.

I begin my position with them on June 5th. He is awaiting his date, since he’ll be in a different area that is currently being renovated. We are being productive gig workers in the meantime ; Instacart, Uber, day labor gigs, you name it. We are not lazy people by any means.

We have been staying with a long time friend of mine, her wife, as well as the wife’s adult son, in one of their unused rooms upstairs.

Long story super short, my friend left both us and her wife with no notice after an argument they had while we were away at work one day. We were told via text by my friend about the situation, and we’re informed to either get a hotel room (knowing that we spent almost everything what we had to get out here cross country) or speak to the wife about staying.

Her wife graciously said that we could stay, laid out rules of the home going forward now that they were split for good, and offered us a 6 month stay to establish life here again in HER home. We knew we only need 1-2.

The wife felt comfortable enough to leave us in the home for an entire week with her adult child, to go on a vacation that she and my friend were supposed to share together. We paid our portion of rent, took care of the home, the dogs, and my fiancé finally had a guy that he could hang out with. There were positive affirming vibes throughout.

The wife just returned yesterday (5/31) giving us 48 hours to vacate. She also had my now ex-friend come get some of her belongings late last night as well.

To add to the movie, (we really need to write one …or three 😅) we had to return our rental car on Friday the 26th, because I was supposed to be getting mine as of today (6/1) through my Uber account since it is now fully registered to Houston, but his isn’t. It takes Uber about a week to transfer accounts, so we decided to transfer them one at a time, as to not interrupt the income stream completely. That plan is now in limbo.

The tragedy of a relationship that had nothing to do with us, has landed us in an unfortunate situation with no vehicle and no home base within the next 48 hours… In a city that has dramatically changed over our ten year absences…But with amazing jobs that are DAYS away from fruition. All praises to The Most High for that being a guiding light to hold onto right now…we just need to make it a couple more weeks to be secure and stable. On our own terms.

We found a Turo rental that is $250 for the week that we can sleep/work in if need be until our first checks come through, which will then allow us to be in our own established apartment or rental home by the end of the month. Guaranteed.

That is why I made this page. We are at a loss for words, thoughts… we have lost so much, and gotten taken advantage of so much in the process of getting settled here as a team. I set the goal at $500 so that we can know that the rental will be covered and we can possibly find a room for rent as well for a week or two…

This is not a page I’ve ever envisioning myself making, but here it is. We’re hoping that there are some kind hearted, well meaning humans out there that have an answer for us, advice, or wouldn’t mind helping us with whatever you can monetarily.

Anything and everything can help us right now.

Thank you for reading this! Stay blessed.
