In Liberia, the streets are filled with young people, who are literally and figuratively starving — hungry for food and knowledge, for opportunity, for a chance. In this country, youth often gathered under a makeshift canopy, with worn books, no technology, and big hopes and dreams of a brighter future. So, we decided to do something to change this!
We heard children say: “We want a place where we can read, where we can dream, where we can build our future.”
We heard young adults say: “We want to start a business, we need training, we need connection.”
And we heard parents say: “If only our children had access to what the world has maybe our community could ripple into something stronger.”
That’s why we at LEDI are building not just a library, but a Library & Technology Center in Gbarnga, Bong County, Liberia, a place where literacy meets opportunity, where infrastructure meets empowerment, where dreams meet design. The first of its kind in Liberia.
In January 2025, we took a team of volunteers from Georgia, Ohio and New Mexico to give hope and further the dream of making the LEDI Library and Technology Center a reality. During our mission, we saw the raw needs. But we also saw the possibilities. With your help, this won’t remain a dream for long. It will become a reality!
What We’re Doing
- Phase One: Architectural Design & Groundbreaking — already completed.
- Phase Two: Construction of the shell and infrastructure — walls, roofing, basic utilities. (Ongoing - Help us complete Phase Two)
- Phase Three: Furnishing the interior, installing computers & internet, stocking books, launching learning programs.
