Igor Nomokonov, more commonly known as G by his friends and Igor Junior by his family, is currently in ICE detention while working through the legal process to remain in the United States—the country he has called home since childhood. He came to the United States legally with his family as a child, but when he turned 18, his immigration status changed.
America has been G's home since elementary school. Here, he built lifelong relationships, developed a strong work ethic and dedicated himself to serving the people around him. Deporting him would separate him from the only home he has truly known and the community he continues to give back to.
G gives back through his art. Over the past year, he has volunteered hundreds of hours creating large-scale art installations for nonprofit organizations, artists and small businesses. Most recently, he helped build a grant-funded sculpture through the Great Lakes Experimental Arts Foundation but was unable to witness its installation because of his detention.
We are raising funds to retain legal representation and advocate for G's release from ICE detention.
As G returns to making art, he plans to create a collection that reflects this chapter of his journey and the community that helped carry him through it. While the primary purpose of this fundraiser remains helping G regain the opportunity to continue his life and work, G wants to also reciprocate. Those who choose to support this effort may have the opportunity to receive artwork as a meaningful way of honoring their investment in his life and the art he has built here.
