JLR arrived in the United States with a dream: to live in freedom and leave behind the dictatorship of his home country, Cuba. In 2004, his life changed when he was selected in the Cuban visa lottery. His application was approved at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, and he was able to fly from Camagüey to Miami, starting a new life filled with hope and hard work.

For more than 21 years, JLR has lived legally in this country. He has never left the United States, nor even considered returning to Cuba, for fear of the regime's repression. He has built his life here, working tirelessly, always with the dream of owning his own Cuban pizza business, a dream he has cultivated with effort and dedication.

On Monday, June 2, while heading to work — where he sells Cuban pizzas — he was unexpectedly stopped by two vehicles, one in front and one behind. When approached, he attempted to show his permanent residence (green card), but was told it was invalid and confiscated. He was arrested without warning and is currently in a detention center.

JLR is the main supporter of his family: his mother, sister, niece, and nephew depend on him emotionally and financially. His arrest has left this family without their pillar and in a situation of great vulnerability.

Today, we ask for your help to cover his legal costs and bring him home. JLR is not a criminal. He's a hard working immigrant, a son, a brother, and an uncle who has only sought to live in peace and dignity.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will help JLR regain its freedom and give this family hope again.

Thank you for your solidarity.
