Chris Wicker is a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School (1996), University of South Carolina (2000), and University of South Carolina School of Medicine (2005). He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Richland Memorial Hospital and began work as an Internist with Lexington Medical Center in 2008. He was appointed as the Assistant Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency in the fall of 2025. Lisa is a graduate of Lexington High School and attended Midlands Tech and University of South Carolina. She works part-time as a certified personal trainer and nutritionist. They are active members of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church where their children participate in youth band and bible studies while Chris and Lisa volunteer with children and youth ministries. Chris and Lisa have volunteered over the years with various other children’s activities to include Scouts, archery, dance and different sports. Their oldest son is a sophomore engineer major at USC. They also have two children in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary school, all in Lexington One schools.
He was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in mid December after he never fully recovered from a virus that he had in October. This cancer has no "cure" but is managed with lifelong Chemo, steroids, and medications to strengthen his bones. He hopes to undergo an autologous bone marrow transplant, likely at MUSC, this year.
Chris is known by patients and colleagues as the physician that they would like to provide care for themselves or their families. He always goes the extra mile for patients and colleagues. Chris is known for his teaching and freely passes on his knowledge to his patients, nurses and other colleagues. Despite having graduated from Carolina he has been a Clemson fan since Lisa first took him to a homecoming game in high school when he was 16. He is well known for wearing orange pants to work on Fridays to support his Tigers during Football season.
While Chris is a physician, his specialty is in primary care (not a high-income medical specialty) and his work schedule has been immediately impacted due to weekly chemotherapy, fatigue, and general malaise from this illness. Lisa has not been able to resume her regular work schedule due to Chris’ many appointments and current health status while maintaining the children’s activities. The Wickers' family members, friends, patients, colleagues, classmates, neighbors, and church family want to collectively help them stay on their feet financially while they fight this illness. They have health insurance but it won’t cover the travel costs and accommodations, meals, co-pays for numerous medications, and additional expenses needed to fight cancer while keeping the family well. There will be unpaid time off from work which will be ongoing since this will be a life-long battle. All funds raised will go toward healthcare costs and day to day living expenses.
