HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM! There are no long-term housing solutions with inclusive social services for people with special needs and chronic disabilities?
Our Mission at the New Ability Health Center is to provide community-based health services for adults who have special needs and require daily assistance.
Our Vision: The New Ability Health Center sees the community as a place that provides supportive services and housing to prevent special needs adults from becoming homeless.
Our Future: We are embarking on an age in place, long term, and inclusive 300 bed supportive housing campus for those with special needs.
Who We Are: New Ability Health Center is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization located in the Heart of Houston’s Sunnyside, SouthPark and Crestmont communities? Our organization is a multi-service facility and is open Monday thru Friday to work with more than 86 clients per day and reaching 31,390 clients annually.
At A Glance: Special needs can range from people with Mental Illness, HIV/Aids, Autism, Asperger syndrome, Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and Blindness.
We provide transformational change in the areas of chronic poverty, resource scarcity, and combat the long-term housing gap for special needs. Licensed from State of Texas for 10 years we provide:
Long term age in place housing with supervision (what happens when special needs caregivers away?)
- Full health care, nursing, and medication coordination (even 1 day off prescribed psychotropic meds can cause our clients to go manic)
- Mental healthcare maintenance (appointment coordination and transportation is mandatory to stay healthy)
- Employment for special needs (our clients can have challenges seeking employment and we are here to guide them thru an easy transition into
the workplace)
- Educating law enforcement professionals in the delivery of services to the special need’s community (when not trained, they may think special needs people are defiant when off meds)
- Community Navigator and Certified Application Counselor (we assist in applying for all social services)
