Help Us Bring Hope to Egoli: Support Our Family Mission Trip to Cape Town
Some places just grab hold of your heart and never let go. For me, that place is Egoli—a resilient, close-knit community tucked within Philippi/Schaapkraal, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. My first mission trip there in 2022 changed my life. Since then, I’ve returned every 18 months, drawn back by the unwavering spirit of the people and the incredible work of Tekiah Church as they serve those in need.
Egoli is an informal settlement with a history marked by hardship and hope. Formed in the mid-90s by families seeking stability after being evicted from a nearby farm, Egoli’s growth has been shaped by those looking for a fresh start. But challenges persist. Because Egoli sits on private land, officials can’t easily provide services like proper drainage or upgrades. Every winter, homes are threatened by flooding. Fires—like the one in March 2025—have left residents homeless and scrambling for basics. Yet, through it all, the community’s warmth and faith are undeniable.
Over the years, I’ve had the joy of serving Egoli in many ways—on a medical mission team, alongside my husband and best friends, with my son working with women and children. Each trip reveals something new about the power of service, the importance of connection, and the resilience of hope.
In June 2026, my heart is full as my entire family of six, along with close friends, prepares to go together. There will be ten of us joining Tekiah Church to provide practical help, encouragement, and compassion to Egoli’s families. For us, this isn’t just a trip—it’s a long-term commitment to walk alongside a community we deeply love.
What is the total cost for the team?
- $20,000 – Flights: 10 people x $2,000 each
- $7,000 – Hotel: 5 rooms x $1,400 each
- $3,000 – In-country transportation: Chartered van for the team
Altogether, the total cost for our team to travel and serve is about $30,000. Each of us is personally paying for half of these expenses, and we’re hoping to raise the other half through the generosity of supporters like you.
