Help Save Ronin

Ronin isn’t just a dog — he’s my adventure partner, best friend, and loyal guardian through numerous tough times in life.

He’s hiked countless trails with me and even crossed the country by van visiting national parks. On every hike where dogs are allowed off leash, he trots ahead and then turns around to check that I’m still following — and anyone who’s ever backpacked with us knows he checks on them too.

Now - we found out at a regular check up last week - that Ronin has a large tumor on his spleen that could rupture and kill him at any moment. The only way to know if he can survive is a major surgery to remove it.

There’s about a 37% chance the tumor is benign, which means the surgery could save his life and give him years more of adventures. Otherwise, we only have weeks to a month or two left with him.

Ronin’s surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

The surgery and hospital care are estimated to cost $2,403–$3,570, and I’m trying to raise the funds quickly to give Ronin this chance.

A lot of you know I left my stable job to open a business and had a baby at the same time, so funds are very limited at this time.

If you’re able to donate or share, it would mean the world to us. Every donation, even just a dollar, helps give Ronin a fighting chance to get back to the trails and people he loves. 🐾

PAUSING ALL DONATIONS AT THIS TIME

We just heard from the vet with an update on Ronin’s radiology report, and the news is encouraging. What the vet originally thought was a high probability of hemangiosarcoma might possibly be a benign growth or even just a change in the shape of his spleen.

For now, surgery has been postponed while we wait to get him scheduled for an ultrasound.

The ultrasound should give us a much clearer picture of what’s going on and help determine whether surgery is necessary.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY DONATIONS AT THIS TIME. I WILL LET YOU KNOW IF WE WILL BE MOVING FORWARD WITH SURGERY ASAP.

UPDATE (4/20/26)

Ronin’s surgery has been rescheduled for Wednesday (4/22) so radiology specialists can take a closer, more thorough look at his X-rays. The encouraging news: his bloodwork came back strong—no signs of internal bleeding and no abnormal white blood cell counts.

We’re adjusting our plans to stay as close to him as possible. We’ll be bringing our skoolie (camper bus) to the vet hospital and living in the parking lot for 24–48 hours starting Wednesday AM. That way, we can be right there during surgery and the critical early stages of recovery, and keep him within immediate reach of emergency care once he’s back with us. Since we’re too far from any emergency vets at home, this feels like the safest, most responsible choice for him right now.

In the meantime, he’s being treated like absolute royalty—endless treats, nonstop snuggles, FaceTime calls with his fan club, and sleeping in bed every night (which, of course, means he’s claiming at least half of it).
