About 50 Democrats in the Texas House have fled the state to try to block Republicans from voting to adopt new congressional districts. The gerrymandered map is designed to pick up five House seats for the G.O.P., ensuring Republican control of Congress during the final two years of President Trump’s second term.
Most testimony from the public, including at a marathon 15-hour hearing on Friday, has been firmly against the new map.
By fleeing to Illinois, New York and elsewhere, the Democratic lawmakers are trying to prevent the House from reaching the quorum needed to hold a vote on the redistricting plan this week.
Let's help them stop the steal—by helping to pay their tab for their extended stay away.
Please give $5 or $10.
I'll ensure it goes directly to them or to a fund of their choice.
