Our precious Lucy Lou has had to have an emergency MRI and spinal surgery! Nothing happened to Lucy, but she has IVDD which is common in certain breeds of dogs, in our case ~ dachshunds. Our lively Lucy suddenly was having trouble doing everyday things and I immediately took her to the vet on Monday, June 28th. I was told she had a pulled muscle in her back and to take her home for crate rest & given meds for inflammation & pain. By Wednesday, she started having trouble standing & was dragging her legs. Being that I've gone through this with our beloved Daisy Mae, I knew every minute counted & that she needed immediate care. By Thursday she was being rushed into an emergency MRI and then immediate surgery to repair her discs. Our sweet girl is only 3 years old and has many more years ahead of her so we wanted to give her a fighting chance! $8000 later, here we are... hoping to raise some $$ to help pay for her medical expenses. She'll most likely need physical therapy later also..
I know some people will think we are crazy for spending this amount of money to fix our dog, but Lucy isn't just a dog.. she's family! She helped our family through some of the roughest times of our lives when my husband battled a rare cancer & after the traumatic loss of our sweet Daisy Mae! In June of 2017, my husband was diagnosed with ALCL Cancer. If that wasn't hard enough, our sweet Daisy had to be put down after being suddenly diagnosed with IVDD in September of 2017~~ her case was much worse than Lucy's. Lucy became a part of our family a few weeks after losing Daisy.. she helped ease our pain by bringing us so much comfort during those hard days... she's been a constant support to us ~ an emotional support animal, a wonderful friend... she's family. So, why did we say yes to surgery?! Because our Lucy deserved our support after all of the love she has given us. Her prognosis is great for full recovery ~ over 80% chance. So we said yes!
