Life changed in an instant when my husband became a bilateral below-knee amputee after a tragic accident, leaving him unable to work. Each day we face a growing mountain of medical expenses, mostly for his prosthetic limbs, which are essential for him to regain any semblance of independence. The costs are overwhelming us, stretching our finances to breaking point. Instead of focusing on healing, we're constantly worrying about the next medical bill.
In the midst of this, my heart aches from being separated from my children, ages 7 and 8. Their laughter used to fill our home, and I hold those memories close, fueling my determination to bring them back. I miss their stories and bedtime cuddles, the simple joys that many take for granted. Being apart from them is a daily struggle.
As a survivor of domestic abuse, my ability to work right now is severely limited. This history casts a shadow over everything, making it difficult to find stability. Our struggles deepen as we face the reality of needing stable housing to reunite our family. It feels like an impossible dream, and yet the thought of holding my children close is what keeps me moving forward.
Reaching out and asking for help isn’t easy, especially when pride tells me to stay silent. But I'm stepping beyond that with a heart full of hope, hoping others can see our need. Each day, I hold onto the vision of a new life where laughter fills our home again, and I can finally provide my children with the love and security they deserve.
