My name is Joyce, and I am a 62-year-old Marine Corps veteran. After 40+ years of being a truck driver, I was hurt while delivering and have not been able to drive since my injury in 2021. I do receive worker's compensation, but it was reduced by $400 weekly, and my bills have become overwhelming. I have cut costs where I can, I am very frugal with what I spend, bill collectors come first, and I have sold the items that I can, trying to make up the differences here and there.
Since my injury, I returned to college (online) and in May of 2024, I earned a master's degree in public accounting. I was hoping to obtain a remote auditor position since I cannot drive, but it appears that no company is willing to take on an older remote worker with no real-world experience in this field.
I hate to ask for assistance from the world because I was taught to give and not take, but I have run out of the resources that I have and have no way to gain more. My water will be shut off on December 30, 2024. I have asked for $500. $300 to cover my water bill emergency and $200 to pay back my neighbor for lending me $260 for groceries over the last several weeks. I will have the $300 two weeks into the new year but will have to take more time to save up the additional $75 fee to turn my water back on.
If you have a tiny bit extra this holiday season, may I trouble you to help me keep my water on and in turn, I will forward this generous kindness forward, here on this website and give back into this community. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
