Hi everyone, my name is April Curtis, and I’m writing this with a very heavy heart but a determined spirit.
Most of you know that I am currently fighting terminal breast cancer. Every day is a battle, but my biggest motivation isn't just my own health—it’s two of my grandchildren. My spouse and I have taken on the blessing of raising them, and they are the light of our lives. We are doing this on our own, without any outside child support, and we are dedicated to giving them a stable, loving home for as long as I am here. This is in addition to the fact that my spouse has Crohn's Disease that is not responding to treatment.
Almost 7 months ago, our world got a little harder. Our only car broke down. In our situation, a car isn't a luxury—it’s our lifeline. It’s how my spouse gets to their doctor appointments, it’s how the kids get to school and doctor visits, and how I get to my infusions and medical appointments. We have had to rely on Uber and Lyft, which is around $800 a month (in addition to our monthly car payment). The mechanic got back to me last night and told me that he finally got the parts in to get the car fixed. The problem is that the warranty is not covering the majority of the work. (The deductible was supposed to be $100, but, now we are responsible for almost $2000 in just vehicle costs).
Between the rising costs of medical co-pays and treatments, the daily expenses of raising two active children, and now the sudden cost of major car parts and labor, we are at our breaking point. We simply cannot cover it all on our own anymore.
Where the funds will go:
**Car Repairs: For parts and labor to get us back on the road.
**Medical Expenses: To cover outstanding treatments and medications.
**Daily Essentials: Helping us provide food and clothing for the grandchildren.
