Last week a student of mine was hit by a car while crossing Center. Mom was with him and had to see not 1 but 2 of her sons hit. The older brother walked away with a broken arm in 2 places, also saving his brother’s life and Cortez was air lifted to Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor where he remains today. Cortez suffered head trauma, a hole in his lung and at this time possibly more injuries that they aren’t aware of yet. Mom is staying at the Ronald McDonald House but they only allow 2 family members to stay there. Once approved, grandma will be the other member to stay. Due to mom’s own medical issues another family member must be with her at the hospital for support at all times. The family is taking turns driving back and forth to be there with them. Tonight grandma is sleeping in the waiting room because she hasn’t been approved yet for housing. Once she leaves the next family member will have to sleep in the waiting room since the 2 spots are filled at the Ronald McDonald House.
Cortez is a wonderful little boy and is well loved by all who know him. He is small but mighty. We want to make sure the family is taken care of every step of the way. He has a long road to recovery.
Thank you for any support you are able to provide.
