I am raising money for the Jaqueline Barrera Distinguished Student Award, which is a scholarship award that my family has given out to one SUNY Stony Brook Occupational Therapy graduating student each year, since my grandmas passing, on my 5th birthday, 11 years ago.
This award, which is named after my grandmother, Jacqueline Barrera, is given to one person who has shown exceptional perseverance in the face of adversity. Not the best student, but the one who has shown the most determination and grit.
Jacqueline Barrera was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to helping those with traumatic brain injuries. She saw the best in her patients and worked to help them be as independent as possible while working under an Occupational Therapist.
She had gone through quite a bit of adversity in life, herself. This award, which keeps her memory alive, is very near and dear to my heart.
I am hoping to raise funds to give a monetary scholarship to help the award recipient pay for the state OT exam and donate some funds to the OT program to help purchase needed equipment to educate future students. Please help me reach my goal of $1,000!
