Hey friends! In December, Pax went into atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response (AFib RVR). His heart was beating extremely fast and irregularly. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where we spent three days being monitored and tested. About 30 hours in, his heart finally came back into rhythm with medication.
The cardiologists and nurses had no clear answer for why a 27-year-old — with a perfectly normal-looking heart on every test — would have an episode like this, let alone AFib at all. The conclusion: a genetic predisposition. The trigger for that specific episode is still unknown.
After many appointments with cardiologists and electrophysiologists, we’ve decided a pulsed field ablation is the right call. Given his age, how long the episode lasted, and how high the heart rate climbed, the risk of stroke and other life-threatening outcomes makes the procedure worth it.
That being said, to help cover these unexpected medical bills, we’re starting this fund so we can be transparent about where things stand and make it easy for anyone who wants to support from afar. We are so thankful for our community and the many, many ways they continue to show up for us!
