OUR STORY
We are Isaiah and Abigail Martinez, founders of Fostering Hope Coffee Roasters. Both of us have always had a heart for serving underprivileged communities, shaped by our years in church ministry and non-profit homeless outreach. A couple of years ago, we received an infertility diagnosis that became a turning point for us. While we firmly believe in the power of Christ and continue believing for our own miracle, we also felt a deeper calling rise in our hearts — a call to love and support the parent-less.
During our time serving in ministry, we were surrounded by leaders who lived out this mission. Several families around us had fostered and adopted multiple children and were preparing to launch a Foster Care ministry within their community. Abigail attended a Foster Care conference with them, where she heard powerful stories from DSS workers and nonprofit leaders. Those stories changed her. She saw firsthand how deeply these youth need consistent adults who will not give up on them.
For Isaiah, the connection runs even deeper. One of his closest childhood friends grew up in foster care and struggled without a stable support system. Eventually, the weight of that loneliness became too much, and he took his own life. That loss became a burden Isaiah still carries — a reminder that no young person should ever feel that alone or unseen.
Our hope through Fostering Hope Coffee Roasters is simple:
To give foster youth what so many of them are missing — a support system, real-world training, stable employment, and most importantly… friends.
A community that shows up, stays consistent, and walks with them into adulthood.
THE PROBLEM WE SEE
The biggest gap we see in the foster care system is the lack of transitional assistance. When teens turn 18 and age out, they’re suddenly expected to survive adulthood completely on their own. There’s no safety net, no consistent adults, and no real-world training to help them build a stable life.
Statistics show that between 11% and 36% of youth who age out will become homeless, and up to 46% experience housing instability by their mid-20s. Many also face higher risks of unemployment, poverty, and incarceration — not because they lack potential, but because they were never given the tools, support, or relationships they needed to transition into adulthood.
Because of our work with the homeless community in the Midlands, we’ve seen firsthand what the future can look like when young adults age out without support. When we look at these statistics, we don’t see numbers — we see faces, stories, and futures that could have been different with the right people in their corner.
And that’s the gap we feel called to step into.
WHY COFFEE?
Coffee has been a key part of our story from the beginning. We both worked as baristas, and we learned early on that coffee isn’t just a drink — it’s a connector. It creates space. It builds community. It opens the door for conversation, mentorship, and belonging.
That’s why coffee feels like the perfect foundation for this mission.
Coffee is approachable and familiar. It naturally brings people together, and it creates an environment where relationships can form. Through Fostering Hope Coffee Roasters, we want to use coffee to give foster youth something many of them have never had: a place to belong, a job they can be proud of, and skills that prepare them for real life.
From day one, 10% of profits from every bag we roast will be donated directly to a nonprofit supporting foster youth in South Carolina.
Coffee gives us a way to build something sustainable — something that doesn’t just help once, but continues creating impact long-term.
OUR VISION
We’re starting with a roaster, but our vision goes far beyond selling coffee.
We are dreaming of building a permanent community space — a place where foster youth, foster parents, churches, nonprofits, and the entire Midlands can come together around something good.
We envision a café and roasting space where young adults in foster care can gain real experience, develop confidence, build friendships, and feel the steady support of people who believe in them. A place where they aren’t just employees — they’re family, they’re leaders, and they’re growing into their future.
We also dream of a space where churches and nonprofits can gather, host events, teach workshops, and partner together to support youth and families in real, practical ways.
And because creativity and music are such a big part of who we are, we imagine giving the young adults in our training program opportunities to shine. When we have a space, we want to host nights where they can play music, run sound, perform slam poetry, create art, and express their stories in a safe, encouraging environment.
Most importantly, we see this future home as a place rooted in Christ, created to serve our community with love, compassion, and purpose.
This permanent home will be the heart of Fostering Hope Coffee Roasters — the place where everything comes together.
OUR COMMITMENT
We are committed to:
1. GIVING BACK FROM DAY ONE.
From the very first bag we roast, 10% of profits will go directly to support foster youth in South Carolina.
2. CREATING REAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH.
Job training, mentorship, creative opportunities, and hands-on experience for teens and young adults transitioning out of foster care.
3. PARTNERING WITH CHURCHES AND NONPROFITS.
Combining community efforts to create greater impact together.
4. BUILDING A COMMUNITY SPACE ROOTED IN CHRIST.
Serving with humility, compassion, and purpose — and keeping Christ at the center of why we serve.
5. STAYING TRANSPARENT AND RESPONSIBLE.
Every dollar will be used intentionally and with accountability.
6. GROWING SUSTAINABLY AND INTENTIONALLY.
Building slowly, steadily, and wisely — with longevity and stability in mind.
WHY WE NEED HELP
The biggest step we need to take right now is securing our commercial coffee roaster. This roaster is the foundation of everything we’re building. Without it, we can’t roast our own beans, launch our products, create job opportunities for youth, or begin giving 10% of our profits to support foster care in South Carolina.
We found a high-quality roaster at an incredible price, but the window to purchase it is limited.
Your support goes directly toward:
-
Purchasing the commercial roaster
-
Installation, venting, and electrical work
-
Our first pallet of green coffee
-
Packaging, labels, and launch supplies
-
Laying the foundation for youth training and community partnerships
Every donation helps us take the first real step toward building something that will serve foster youth for years to come.
OUR HEART
If you’ve made it this far, thank you — truly.
Thank you for taking the time to understand our heart, our vision, and the reality so many foster youth face here in South Carolina.
This mission is bigger than us. It’s bigger than coffee. It’s about giving young adults something every human deserves:
A chance.
A chance to grow.
A chance to belong.
A chance to walk into adulthood with people who believe in them.
Your donation doesn’t just help us launch a business —
it helps create opportunities, stability, and hope for young adults who have faced more than most of us ever will.
We can’t do this alone.
But together, we can build something that brings hope, opportunity, and purpose to foster youth across the Midlands.
Thank you for believing in this mission.
Thank you for believing in them.
And thank you for helping us begin fostering hope.
With love and gratitude,
Isaiah & Abigail Martinez
