We know that when we lift up together in prayer to our loving God, miracles can occur. At this time, I beg you to join me in fervent prayer for the healing of my sweet baby grandson, Lukas, who is fighting for his life at the Pediatric ICU in Dallas. At birth, Lukas spent time in the NICU with a very rare, and still unknown, reaction his body had with making platelets. Despite dozens of tests and multiple blood transfusions, doctors remain puzzled as to why Lukas’ body destroyed the platelets he was given through transfusions. After three weeks, we experienced the miracle we were praying for. Lukas’ little body stopped destroying the platelets and he began making them on his own! He was finally able to go home with continued monitoring of his platelet levels.
He got to spend 3 months at home, surrounded by the love of his mommy (Angie), daddy (Ken), and his overjoyed big brother and two big sisters. But on November 4th, Angie took Lukas to the doctor out of concern that he was refusing to eat. Lukas’ oxygen was so low, he was taken by ambulance to a children’s hospital. He had severe pneumonia in one lung. After a couple days on oxygen and fluids, something went terribly wrong during the night. Lukas was transferred by helicopter to a bigger Children’s Hospital in Dallas. He is now on two ventilators in very critical condition and complications seem to continue.
Angie has not left his side. She talks to him, rubs his little head, whispers comfort only a mommy can offer, prays over him, and sings to him. The doctors consider her a major impact in Lukas’ continued fight to stay on this Earth with his family. Without her being by his side, I am not sure he would continue to endure. Angie used all of her maternity, sick leave and short-term disability to be with Lukas those first 3 weeks in the NICU and then at home. In mid-October, she returned to her full-time job which provides the family with medical insurance. Ken, who is self-employed, has also missed work the past week, first to take care of their other three children at home and now as Lukas’ condition becomes more critical, to be by his sweet wife and also cheer on his little warrior who seems to have a determination to do something big in this world. It is unknown when Ken and Angie will return to work. Thankfully, family has flown in to stay with the other three children and attend to their needs. We want Ken and Angie to be able to stay by Lukas’ side without the overwhelming concern of the medical bills piling up. If you can contribute financially, we would really appreciate it.
