On February 7, 2023, my younger brother Billy suffered from severe TBI, along with multiple fractures, as the result of a major vehicular accident. He passed away on February 19, 2023, a day after he was taken off life support. His prognosis continued to decline during his stay in the hospital. He never woke, failed responding to pain, and did not show evidence of higher brain function. Billy loved life, loved being active, loved being among nature. He would never have wanted to be bound in bed or left needing significant assistance.
My parents stayed with him throughout the 13 days he was in the TICU in Danville, PA, about two hours from where they both live. It gives me great peace to know they were there the entire time, united in their desire to love him and provide him with the best care in either direction.
My sisters and I are raising money to help our parents cover the cost of their hotel stay in Danville, food and gas, and the cremation. Billy had purchased health insurance shortly before his accident, a blessing, but did not have a life insurance policy.
The rough breakdown of costs are:
- $2700 - hotel
- $1600 - cremation
- $700 - food/gas/clothing (roughly)
I have been holding a sale of my artwork on Instagram and have raised $380 that will be added to this campaign. Any excess money we receive will be donated to the United Brain Association and to the Brain Injury Association of America.
As a family, we would like to thank each and every individual who has reached out to offer their condolences. We are truly touched by your kindness.
Be safe and well, all.
The King Family
