As some may know, I have struggled with orthopaedic injuries since I was young. I had my first of 7 surgeries on my right leg when I was 13. In 2020 I was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) which affects all soft tissues in my body – especially the muscles and connective tissues at my joints. Since 2020 the condition of my right leg has rapidly declined, and I developed a form of partial paralysis in this leg, leaving me dependent on crutches or my wheelchair for the majority of the last 6 years. I have spent this time working tirelessly with my healthcare team of physicians, physical therapists, and orthotists to salvage my right leg and to ideally restore any portion of the quality of life I once had.

Unfortunately, despite everyone's best efforts and an amazing medical team here in Houston, I will be amputating my right leg this summer. I am at peace knowing that we have tried all avenues to save the leg, recent advances in the prosthetics field have created incredible new opportunities and technologies, and I have an amazing support system surrounding me.

Because of my deteriorating condition requiring me to use my wheelchair more often than not and because I will need to rely heavily on my wheelchair post-amputation, our first priority is getting me out of my current apartment, which does not accommodate wheelchair access to essential areas such as the bathroom, closet, and bedroom. I am planning to move to a new apartment complex with an ADA-compliant, wheelchair accessible unit.

The financial impact of mounting medical expenses, surgical costs, unanticipated moving fees, and overlapping rent obligations during the transition is substantial. This is why I’m stepping out of my comfort zone—not only sharing my story in detail but also asking for help.

I am deeply thankful for everyone who has supported me during this journey. Now, I ask for your continued support. If you’re able to contribute financially, any amount is sincerely appreciated. I also ask your help in spreading the word with anyone and everyone you can. Finally, I ask for thoughts, prayers, and encouraging words/messages during this time.

Update: 05/25: We have a date! My amputation is set for June 16, 3 weeks from tomorrow. I am very fortunate we were able to get things scheduled so soon, as I am now 95-100% wheelchair bound.

As this date approaches I am unbelievably grateful for the support and prayers so far. I ask that you continue to pray, share, and donate. I have flyers and other

Update 04/24: I am so grateful to everyone who has donated, shared, and sent thoughts and prayers so far! I have had many unexpected doctor appointments pop up in preparation for the surgery, several of which are not covered by insurance. Additionally, I have received some preliminary estimates for the surgery. As such, I have updated the goal to reflect these expenses.

Thank you again for the support, I could nor be doing this without all of the help!
