In moments of adversity, the strength of family and community bonds shines brightest. The Peterson family recently endured a bump in the road when their unborn baby boy was diagnosed with spina bifida myelomeningocele (MMC) at 22 weeks gestation. Faced with daunting recommendations and the need for immediate action, they found a ray of hope with the option for fetal surgery—a lifeline offered by the dedicated team at Children's Hospital of Colorado in Aurora. Thanks to this procedure, Caitlyn and Baby Peterson have seen a triumph against the odds. The surgery was a success, paving the way for a healthier future. However, in celebrating this victory, they encounter a new set of challenges. Caitlyn must stay home for the remainder of her pregnancy to ensure the best recovery of herself and baby boy. The financial implications are overwhelming; scans, ultrasounds, clinic visits, travel, baby preparation, to name a few. This surgery was also not covered by insurance so there are considerable medical bills to endure.
