The Giving Wren started from something simple—just me, some yarn, and a desire to help where I could.
Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time crocheting items for different charities, but there are two causes that I always come back to. The first is making tiny hats for preemie and stillborn babies. This one is especially close to my heart. I was born at St. David’s, and so was my daughter, Wren. Being able to give back to a place that holds that kind of meaning for me feels incredibly special. This year, I’m hoping to donate to both St. David’s and Darnall Medical Center here on base.
The second is an organization called Knitted Knockers. They provide handmade, soft, lightweight bra inserts for women who have undergone mastectomies. These pieces offer comfort during a time when so much already feels heavy—and being able to contribute to that in some small way matters more than I can explain.
Here’s where this grows into something bigger than just me.
I’ve had so many people tell me they wish they knew how to crochet so they could help with projects like this. So I decided to open this up in a different way—by creating a fundraiser to support the materials behind the work.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that the yarn required for these items isn’t your standard, inexpensive acrylic. It has to meet specific softness, safety, and medical guidelines, which makes it more costly.
