In the span of just a few heartbreaking weeks, Dixie’s world was shattered. First, she lost her brother Darren in a tragic car accident — a loss that was truly devastating. Before she could even begin to process that grief, she was diagnosed with renal cancer and rushed toward a January 8 surgery that would change everything.
The cancer was removed — but the nightmare didn’t end there. During surgery, her bowel was accidentally nicked, leading to excruciating pain, life-threatening systemic infections, an emergency second surgery, and two long hospital stays. As I write this, Dixie is still hospitalized, fighting with everything she has just to heal.
As her sister, I have watched her face unbearable pain and unimaginable loss with courage that humbles me. But even the strongest hearts have limits. Dixie’s short-term disability has now run out. The paychecks have stopped. The hospital bills have not. And when she is finally well enough to go home, she faces months of intensive treatment — six-hour infusion appointments that will keep her from returning to work anytime soon.
No family plans for tragedy to strike twice. No one prepares for grief and catastrophic medical crisis to collide at the same time.
Today, I am asking — from the depths of my heart — for you to stand with Dixie. Every dollar, every prayer, every share makes a difference. Your generosity will help ease the crushing financial burden so she can focus on what truly matters: healing her body, tending to her broken heart, and finding her way forward.
If you are able, please give what you can. And if you cannot give, please share her story. Let’s surround Dixie with the love, strength, and support she has always given so freely to others. Now she needs us.
