Hello my name is Acacia Skye Portillo. I currently live in Asheville NC. As you know this was one of the main areas to be affected by hurricane Helene.

There’s a lot of stories but I’d like to share mine. I am a mother to a beautiful 5 year old boy, Mikah Bell Harrill and we’ve lived out in Asheville NC for about 3.5 years now.

Asheville is my home, the community, the people, the atmosphere is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It is one of the most welcoming loving accepting communities I have ever been a part of.

When hurricane Helene hit it changed my life completely. I run an all natural  cleaning company called Skye’s Natural Cleaning, for the past 2 years and with the devastation Helene has caused I am currently out of work along with many others who are just trying to get by day by day making sure we have enough food / water and any other essentials necessary to just survive.

What you see on the news doesn’t even cover half of what’s really going on. There are so many people still missing, people stuck in the mountains with no resources, and bodies left to be found.

Although my son and I were able to make it out and stay with some family in WY temporarily, many others were not as fortunate. Luckily I have power at my apartment with no damages but many of us still have no water for months.

I’m trying to get back to Asheville to help restore and volunteer within my community. Because of good hearted citizens WNC is getting plenty of supplies sent in for people  but they are desperate for volunteers to help distribute all the donations to people in need.

Every donation is going to support my son and I, currently we are still expected to pay rent/utilities, and basic essentials such as food, water, gas.

Unfortunately we are also without a vehicle. Donations would help my son and I get a car to return home and be able to get around for supplies (food, water, gas) and to do volunteer work around the community as well.

When my son’s school opens back up we will need a vehicle as well.

Please if this was your home, your family, your community, your job/business you would do anything and everything to help. Please help us, every little kindness act matters.

Thank you for your support, send prayers and love to WNC and all the victims of hurricane Helene 🌸
