Special people, need a special place to call their own, accessible ready and essential to meeting their unique needs.
More importantly I believe that it has become twice as crucial today living within a societal pandemic that's stressful for everyone, especially for families who must face these challenges everyday as well as providing remote learning without any real relief or assistance for themselves or their children.
It is probably more critical than most of us can imagine, for these thankless parents and caregivers to have an opportunity to refuel and self-care for just a few hours a week.
The Proximal Zone is a non profit designed for just that. A daycare for mildly-disabled individuals who wants to explore and experience a myriad of activities through social and physical interaction.
The Proximal Zone named for the Zone of Proximal Development. Psychologist Lev Vygotsky (1934) known for his sociocultural theory which views human development as a process that is socially mediated. What some can and cannot do without guidance of another who is more knowledgeable (parents, teachers, peers).
The goal is to create a safe haven. One that does not teach but guides special individuals through instruction within a cooperative learning environment. One that consists of small groups at different levels of abilities, which implements or uses a variety of activities to engage, inspire and develop learning through kinesthetic and social skills within an organized domain.
To bridge the goal with its mission and to ensure the most optimal services as well as a safe environment and the success of its clients, this facility will require a multitude of equipment which includes assistive devices, tablets, iPads, communicators, sensory devices, special computer technology, prediction software, video taped social skills, Listening devices, personal amplifiers and tv streamers, graphic organizers to name a few.
All of which will be appreciated as well as reaching its monetary goal.
Thank You for your understanding and supporting our communities
