For those that have not heard yet, on Thursday March 20th while I was on vacation I received a phone call from my mom saying she was rushed to Medina hospital because she passed out. They did scans and found an orange sized tumor wrapped around her pulmonary artery and also found spots in several other locations. Not knowing fully what was happening I rushed home to be with her.
Late Thursday evening she was transferred to RGH. On Monday she had a biopsy of the tumor. Results came back Tuesday. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer. The cancer also metastasized to her adrenal glands, liver, and right pelvic bone.
The doctors said without treatment her life expectancies would only be 6 weeks. With treatment she can live up to 18 months.
The plan right now is to start chemotherapy to shrink the tumor in her lungs. She will also be doing radiation for the tumor masses on her pelvic bone.
My mom is one of the strongest, most selfless people I have ever known and is always there to give her love and support or the shirt off her back to anyone that needs it. She helped take care of my dad until he passed. She now has been taking care of her husband who is disabled. She is always willing to go without in order to help others. It is now time for her to focus and take care of herself.
For those that know me, I am also not someone that likes to ask for help. Some of her medical expenses are unfortunately not covered by insurance. With everyday expenses and bills we are unable to pay for these expenses on our own. If you can, please help my mom by donating what you can. If you are unable to donate please share this post to help spread the word. I want to relieve as much stress as I possibly can for my mom during this difficult time. Thank you so much in advance for all of the love and support.
