Hello Theater lovers! UnSex Me Here Players is a brand new theater company in Los Angeles producing staged readings of Shakespeare, Classics, and modern re-tellings with all female, trans, and nonbinary casts and directors.
After our highly first production - Hamlet: A Staged Reading featuring 10 different actors playing Hamlet at the Victory Theatre Center last year, we are thrilled to announce our next production.On April 6th we are very excited to be presenting our second project - a staged reading of Othello at The EBell of Los Angeles directed by Ann Noble and featuring Judy Louise Johnson as Othello, Liza Seneca as Iago, and Kaite Brandt as Desdemona.
We need your help to make this happen! We need $800.00 to cover the cost of the this production and are hoping to be able to do an encore performance at a different location.If you donate $20, you will receive a priority seating ticket for Othello or 2 priority seating tickets for $35.00.
We believe that it is important to create more opportunities for women and gender queer people in classical theater. All casting will be done blind to age, body type, ethnicity (except when relevant ie Othello), mobility, etc. We ask our company members what roles they have always wanted to play and won't normally be cast in and strive to make their dreams a reality. In addition to the benefit to the actors, audiences have the opportunity to see these plays and characters in new ways through the performances of actors they would not normally see in these roles.
We focus on staged readings to allow actors to participate who may be too busy with day jobs or family responsibilities for the rigorous demands of weeks of in person rehearsals required by most full productions. However, we eventually hope to add one fully staged play per season.
Our next project will be a staged reading of Ionesco's Macbett - date and location TBD. We also hope to produce zoom monologue showcases and offer complimentary workshops on different theater subjects and techniques. We want to create a diverse and supportive creative community to create opportunities for both performers and audiences not currently being fully served by the LA theater scene.
