Sorry for the delayed update. It has been quite an experience. Shalene and I started out wanting to help the people of Ukraine but in many ways they have helped us. We have met many amazing people here who have shown us true kindness and hospitality.
We have been in Ukraine for 1.5 weeks now. Shalene and I started out working in a medical clinic for refugees. The team consisted of nurses, PA, and our wonderful translators. The clinic was extremely busy seeing about 80-100 patients every day. The disease processes were acute to chronic. The war has resulted in both physical and emotional harm with many causing self inflicted wounds. Others presented with wounds secondary to gunfire and shrapnel. We also saw patients with seizures, hypertensive emergency, hyperglycemia, and general wellness checks. The clinic was located at a refugee camp where there were many children sleeping in tents, waiting for weeks for a permanent home.
We are trying to make the biggest impact possible with the resources we have obtained.
For the youngest victims of war, we have set up a system where toys and candy will be available daily for the upcoming months. We have seen the glow in the children’s eyes and excitement over the most simple things.
The medical supplies delivered courtesy of project cure and local houstonians have been distributed to hospitals, field hospitals, military and front line workers. We also provided vests and helmets for emergency response workers and civilians serving as volunteers to deliver food to the front lines.
We have also contributed to purchasing a Truck that will be use for logistical support on the front lines, and are currently looking into housing an extended family of 12 including a baby, that have been living in the refugee tents for the past 2 months.
We realize there is still so much that can be done. There is a constant demand for medical equipment such as tourniquets and hemoststic agents for military and frontline workers. We have met with wounded soldiers, watched videos of terror on the front line and asked them directly about their needs.
Our plan is to continue to provide aid to the refugees, and provide supplies to military and front line.
Please continue to share with your friends and family our story so that we many continue to help in this cause.
