Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

Our dear friend Tigre has recently faced life-altering challenges. After just being diagnosed with diabetes Monday and complications led to the loss of his lower leg. He bravely underwent surgery just yesterday, Friday, and now he begins his very long road to recovery.

Tigre is known to all of us as hard working, always happy, helpful, brilliant in the horse show world, keeping us on track, taking the utmost care of our horses. 'Cowboy hat Tigre' has taken care of DANA SMITH SHOW TEAM at all our competitions for the last decade.

As we can all only imagine the mounting medical and hospital expenses are overwhelming.  Recovering and adjusting with a new prosthetic on his continuous journey ahead of him will present countless challenges.

We're reaching out to our community to help ease this financial burden so he can focus on healing.

Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference. Every donation goes directly toward covering his medical bills, rehabilitation, and necessary support for his recovery journey.

Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser with others who might be able to help. Together, we can show Tigre he's not alone in this journey and he is adored and appreciated.

Thank you for your kindness, support, and generosity.

Happy New Year to all.

Tigre is truly overwhelmed and deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support you have shown through your donations, meal drop-offs, and gift cards via Give In Kind:

He is incredibly gracious and thankful to each and every one of you.

Yesterday, Tigre had his surgical sutures removed, and this coming Monday he will begin the process of being fitted for a new prosthetic leg — an important and hopeful step forward in his recovery.

I cannot express enough gratitude for your generosity and assistance in helping keep Tigre fed and housed during this challenging time. Your kindness has lifted a tremendous weight and made a meaningful difference.

I am praying daily that Tigre continues to grow stronger, regains full functionality, and is able to return to his career as a head groom. He is gifted, talented, intelligent, kind, and always smiling — someone who keeps everything organized and never misses a detail.

I will continue to keep you updated on Tigre’s progress.

With my wholehearted thanks,
Dana

I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your kind words, social media shares, generous donations, and—most of all—your big hearts.

Holly Weiland and I went to see Tigre yesterday, and as always, we were greeted with his big smile and deep gratitude. He is staying strong and positive and understands that this will be a long healing process. Doctors estimate 9–12 months for recovery, including being fitted for a new prosthetic and learning how to walk again. We are praying that one day he will be able to return to the occupation he loves and excels at.

With everything happening so suddenly, Tigre is also receiving guidance on a lifelong dietary change. He quietly joked with us yesterday, “No more tortillas, beans, or rice.” His new diet includes no sugar, no white flour, and no fruit—only chicken, fish, and vegetables.

The doctors have shared that he will be moving home soon. A hospital bed and walker have been ordered, and a nurse will visit daily to change his IV and dressings.

Lastly, I would love ideas on starting a food chain for Tigre to help ensure he continues eating properly while he heals. Tigre lives on Del Obispo right after the railroad tracks, on the right.

Please feel free to text me your ideas at 949-922-3657.

Thank you again to everyone for your incredible love and support.

I wanted to share an update about Tigre.

Despite him facing incredibly challenging circumstances, including the rapid loss of his leg over just four days due to complications from his unknown diabetes, his attitude remains remarkably positive. This experience has been earth-shattering for him, but his resilience and spirit continue to shine through.

Please keep offering your support and encouragement during this time.

We are wishing Tigre the best with his first physical therapy session tomorrow and a smooth recovery as he progresses toward being fitted with a prosthetic once the tissue and skin have healed.

Tigre is at Mission Hospital in room 137.

He would love any visitors if you have the time.
