KATYA DE LUISA
HEALING CANCER NATURALLY
My name is Katya De Luisa, and I have lived in Costa Rica since 1980. I work as a dementia educator, artist, writer, and author, offering dementia education to both local and international communities. I also host a monthly online program through Foundation Partir con Dignidad, a Hospice Foundation here, which has about 150 regular viewers and over 900 subscribers.
Most dementia educators focus on managing the person being cared for, but I start with the basics of brain function. I explain how damage to different parts of the brain from dementia leads to specific symptoms and behaviors. My goal is to help listeners understand what people with dementia experience and to build empathy by encouraging them to see things from their perspective.
I offer this free of charge. Itās an honor to be of service to so many and help so many families navigate the challenges dementia presents. This is my passion and my purpose, and I want to continue with this work.
I've also published a book on dementia in both English and Spanish versions.Ā Ā
Now, it is I who needs help, and asking for it has not been easy.Ā
I feel grateful to have found supportive friends among both Costa Ricans and foreigners here. I have no family in Costa Rica, and my only son lives in the US and helps as much as he can. I have chosen not to return to the US and want to stay in this country I love.
My Healers
Thirty years ago, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and told to get my affairs in order. I worked with an Ayurvedic practitioner and used natural methods to heal. After a year, I was cancer-free, and it never returned. My recovery involved deep cleanses, herbs, acupressure, emotional release, and a very strict diet.
I never thought cancer would return and change my life again, but this time it is different. I have colorectal cancer that has spread to my lungs and liver, which is a difficult diagnosis. The conventional treatment offered to me is chemotherapy and radiation, followed by surgery to remove my lower intestine and rectum, which would mean living with a colostomy bag for the rest of my life.
For me, this is not an option. Iām living in acceptance of whether I survive this or I donāt. Iām doing all I can to heal, but if itās my time, I have assisted dying in place.
In Costa Rica, holistic medicine is readily accessible. I found an integrative doctor in the south who has helped others reverse cancer. During our appointment, her assessments were accurate, and she recommended treatments such as ozone and Vitamin C IVs, which have shown benefits for cancer healing. She also emphasized the importance of periodic fasting and a raw food diet. She supports the Ivermectin Fenbendazole protocol, which I started after my colonoscopy, and she corrected my dosage since I had been taking too little.
After meeting with her, I felt renewed hope and determination.
I also visited a renownedĀ Costa Rican herbalist in the mountains above Uvita, a small beach town on the Pacific. A friend who was healed from breast cancer by her recommended her. She, too, was incredibly knowledgeable, and I left with several herb combinations and bottles of liquid herbs Iām to drink during fasting. Then to the raw food diet.
I hope to visit these healers in the southern region twice a month for treatments, to check my progress, and to restock my herbal supplies. Because of the distance, I need to stay overnight each time. In the San Jose area, I am also looking into several other treatments.
Financial Situation
Like many artists, I did not pay into Social Security. I then moved abroad for nearly 50 years. Now, at 77, I receive only the minimal pension of a few hundred dollars. For years, my main income has come from art shows and sales, developing art therapies for social service organizations, leading art workshops, and later, training caregivers in eldercare facilities through my dementia work.
In Costa Rica, I also ran a successful pet-sitting business for years alongside my art income, which allowed me to cover my expenses and live comfortably. I had to stop pet-sitting because, at my age, being alone in isolated areas wasnāt safe in case of accidents. I have national healthcare, which has covered my health needs until now, but I have chosen not to accept their treatment for my current condition.
So, here I am reaching out for help covering the expenses of my holistic treatments and herbal supplements. I continue to sell art and teach classes to maintain my income, but itās been difficult to keep it all going. I donāt have the financial ability to cover the treatments or the trips south. The healing from this is a slow process, and Iām calculating maybe a year, hopefully not more.
Any financial support is so greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
