This is year is incredibly important to me as I have extra reach to be able to share my story of surviving a child predator and murderer to children of all ages. My mission as Miss DeWitt County and hopefully the next Miss Texas and Miss America, is to educate children and parents on the dangers of social media predators and how to best protect their children in a digital world.
My Story: When I was 14 years old, I was approached on Instagram by a 67 year old in disguise. I was a teenager who struggled with self esteem issues, so when a man on Instagram began complimenting me…. I instantly fell into the trap. As I continued my relationship with the predator, he began to increasingly ask me for pictures and videos. After a year, my mother found that I had been communicating with this man and taken away my access to the internet. 2 years later, The FBI came to my front door and let me know that the “boy” I had been talking to was actually a 67 year old man. He had thousands of child pornography, addresses of girls houses, and even the bones of a 14 year old girl.
Not only have I earned academic scholarships, I have also gained incredible interview and public speaking skills, confidence, and found my passion for service.
