The Sam Houston State Bearkats Rugby team is headed to the NCR National Championship 7’s Tournament in Washington, D.C. (April 23–26) after winning the Yellow Rose 7’s National Qualifier Tournament Championship in Katy, Texas.
The Bearkats went 6–0 on the weekend, defeating Baylor 31–14 in the championship match to secure their spot at Nationals. The team will now compete for its second 7’s National Championship in four years, after winning the CRC 7’s National Championship in 2022.
Traveling to a national tournament comes with significant expenses. With 17 players, coaches, and trainers traveling, we anticipate the trip to cost approximately $5,000 for flights, lodging, and transportation.
To help cover these costs, we’re launching a fundraiser where any donation of $150 or more will also count as 2026 team dues. Donors who contribute at this level will receive:
-
A 2026 SHSU Rugby T-shirt
-
A new 2026 SHSU Rugby hat
-
One additional item (TBD)
This offer is open to anyone who wants to support the program, not just alumni.
Your support helps our players represent Sam Houston State on the national stage and continue building a championship-level program.
Thank you for helping the Bearkats chase another national title! 🏉
