I am a 28-year-old trans male who has struggled with my identity for a long time. I do not have a supportive family and have very few friends. I recently found my circle and created my own family, and I couldn’t be happier with them in my life!
My dysphoria has been severely affecting my mental health to the point where I have had to take several months off of work just to be able to think straight. I stopped going out in public and am miserable when I have to be around other people because I can see how they look at me. I couldn’t find binders or clothes that made me feel okay with myself without being itchy, sweaty, or uncomfortable for hours on end.
So I did something about it. I recently saw a plastic surgeon and have been approved to undergo top surgery! I have yet to schedule, but it is projected to take place before the end of 2023. I have recently submitted my documents and have received insurance authorization for the procedure to take place, and have scheduled my pre-op mammogram.
The struggle I’m facing now is that I don’t have the money to pay for any of my bills while I’ll be in recovery. I was out on an LOA until recently and have drained my savings almost entirely. I will be out of work for approximately 6-8 weeks if everything goes properly and I am the sole income earner in my household.
Between my mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, pet expenses, car payments, and insurance deductible, I’m looking at close to $12,000 for that period of time. I have a small portion of it in an HSA and am working to save up as much money as possible prior to the surgery date but I fear that I won’t even come close since I don’t usually have much leftover. I don’t really have any valuables or assets to sell and I cannot afford to take out any more loans at the moment and I don’t really have anywhere else to turn.
Any and all support would be greatly appreciated so that I can take this next step in my journey, and not put myself at risk of losing my house after working so hard to finally afford one.
