On May 3rd, our loved ones Jake Flannery and Sharon Bittner were involved in a serious motorcycle accident that has changed their lives in an instant. They are currently facing a long road to recovery, including hospital stays, medical treatments, rehabilitation, and time away from work.

As they focus on healing physically and emotionally, the financial burden from medical bills, transportation, daily living expenses, and lost income continues to grow. We are asking for support during this incredibly difficult time to help ease some of the stress and allow them to concentrate on recovery.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and helping them get back on their feet. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean just as much.

Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support during this challenging time.

Jake & Sharon Update – 5/17

Jake is scheduled for another foot surgery on Tuesday. If all goes well, the plan is for him to be home by the end of the week!

Sharon has made some great progress over the last few days in rehab. She was able to sit up on the edge of the bed—huge milestone! She has wrist surgery scheduled for Monday and continues working hard with PT, OT, and speech therapy. Sharon is still receiving nutrition through a feeding tube but is now able to take small sips with assistance. She’s also making small strides in cognitive testing—and true to herself, she’s been showing visitors that sarcastic personality we all know and love.

Both Jake and Sharon have extensive rehab ahead, but the progress they’re making is incredible.

We want to give a huge thank you to all the businesses that have donated to the silent auction—there are so many amazing, creative, motorcycle-themed items. The support has been overwhelming in the best way.

We’re also working on setting up a meal train for when Jake returns home to help take some of the daily stress off.

Shoutout to our incredible group of friends who came together to make Jake and Sharon’s home handicap accessible—your kindness and hard work mean everything.

The benefit ride keeps growing, and we can’t wait to see bikes, jeeps, and hot rods come together for this amazing cause. Keep the prayers, love, and support coming—these kids and their parents need it now more than ever.

Jake and Sharon Update 5/10 ❤️

Jake has been doing great with physical therapy, using his “old man push cart” as he calls it. He’s definitely stiff and sore, but continuing to push through. Jake will need a few more surgeries on his foot and ankle in the future, but until the swelling goes down he remains non-weight bearing.

Today Jake was able to go down and see Sharon again. The strength in that man when he stood up and leaned over to give her a kiss broke everyone’s hearts. She truly lights up the whole room when she sees him. ❤️

Sharon was in quite a bit of pain today, but a few of us were able to get her to eat a few bites of different foods. The family has also been given a significant update they would like to share. Sharon has been diagnosed with a severe brain injury that will impact her entire life and family.  She has begun PT, OT and speech therapy. Sharon is doing great considering everything she is facing, but she has a very long journey ahead in her recovery.

Today she was sociable off and on throughout the day and was able to spend time with her teenagers and mom on Mother’s Day. So much love and support has already been sent to this family, but so much more will be needed to help keep them strong and together while they navigate these horrific circumstances.

Huge shoutout to Bub, Brice, and Aaron for putting up a fence for the dogs and taking care of the yard.

And thank you to Sharon’s work family at IDDC for the thoughtful care package filled with gift cards for the kids to use while visiting their parents. Your kindness means more than words can say.

Please keep the prayer chain going. With both parents needing extensive rehab over the next year — and years to come — this family still has a long road ahead.

Jake & Sharon Update 5/8 ❤️

Jake spent most of the day with his kids and grandbaby. He was able to get up with a walker today and start some PT exercises. He definitely wasn’t a fan of it, but he knows Sharon and all the kids need him strong. Keep sending the love, support, and reminders that so many people are counting on him through this recovery journey.

Visitors are now allowed for Jake only on Powell 5. Show him some love today.

Sharon’s shoulder surgery was rescheduled yesterday due to her hemoglobin being low but the orthopedic surgeon decided transfusions were the best option while in surgery. Sharon’s arm surgery was completed successfully and she has now been moved to Powell 4 where she will work with PT and OT over the weekend. Sharon’s family is still asking that visitors remain limited to family only at this time.

Last night Sharon was a little more alert and talkative — her feisty side is definitely starting to show again, but she was very tired afterward.

Please continue praying for them and their entire family. There is still a long road ahead, but with the love from this community and family support, there’s no doubt recovery is possible.

Huge shoutout to Sharon’s work family at IDDC for bringing care packages for the kids and family along with so many heartfelt notes. Sharon truly has a huge heart and has made lifelong friendships through this company.

The benefit ride route has officially been locked in, and final details will continue being worked out throughout the day.
Silent auction donations are still being taken by jayell woods and Becky woods.
Brickhouse Fittness is being used as the drop off location for gift cards for the children!

Keep the prayers coming. ❤️

Update 5/7 for Jake & Sharon 💙

Jake did great during his hip surgery yesterday, but he’s been in a lot of pain afterward. Today he’s wanting to spend some time alone with the kids before opening visits back up. Physical therapy will also begin today as he starts the next step in recovery.

Sharon is doing amazing. She was awake off and on most of yesterday and was able to talk a little with her kids and family. Doctors have placed a brace on her to help support her back. This morning she went into surgery to repair her shoulder. Visits are still restricted at this time, but the family is encouraged to continue talking to her and being there for support.

Thank you all so much for the prayers, support, donations, messages, and love shown to this family. It truly means more than words can express.

A huge shoutout to everyone helping behind the scenes:
• The amazing people helping care for their dogs at home
• Eric for fixing the car so Daniel can get back and forth
• Sharon’s work family for providing a Tacos dinner for the family last night — everyone was beyond excited for some real food

Reminder: auction donations are currently being collected by Becky Woods and Jayell Woods. Motorcycle friends and clubs are rallying together to make this benefit ride something truly special. Dates for the ride will be announced by Sunday.

Gas cards for Daniel are still greatly needed to help with work, school, and trips to the hospital. Gift cards for meals for the kids while at the hospital are also appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at Brickhouse Fitness in Bondurant, IA.

Please keep the prayers coming. Jake and Sharon are doing well, but they still have a long road to recovery ahead.
