As most of you know, Oakleigh has had two going on three surgeries since Oct 2022. We just got an update from her surgeon and she will be having her fourth brain surgery July 12th in Salt Lake City. There is fluid surrounding the outside of her brain causing it to collapse. They will be putting a permanent shunt on the outside of her brain to drain the fluid and help it stay drained. Back in May, she had this same issue and we ended up staying in the hospital for almost a week letting the fluid drain by EVD tubes. We were really hoping that was the last of it and it wouldn’t happen again but, unfortunately, it did. She already has a permanent drain on the inside of her brain to control the fluid in there. This time we are hoping to stay 3-4 days. This surgery was unexpected and we don’t qualify for Wyoming Medicaid because we are barely over the limit for income. We pay for her medical care and bill completely out of pocket. We ask that you keep Oakleigh in your prayers while we get through the weekend and into surgery next week. Im getting a lot of “Why does Oakleigh need surgery again?”
There is CSF building up between her skull & brain just like last time. Her brain tissue is very thin on one side of her brain from when she had the brain bleed when she was born. The fluid is putting pressure on her brain starting to collapse it. There is just as much fluid there as there was last time so 18-20 oz.
