The Gunnar Heinrich Foundation is a 501c3 private non-profit organization dedicated to fighting pediatric diffuse glioma brain cancer. www.gunnarfoundation.org. This is a 100% terminal brain cancer and a death sentence for the roughly 150 children affected each year. It took the life of the sweetest, most joyful little boy - Gunnar when he was 3 1/2 years old in September 2019. It decimates families each year when very young children are diagnosed and can expect to pass away within 10 short months.
The foundation is focused on funding research that can predict, diagnose or treat H3K27M diffuse midline glioma.
We are currently raising money to continue research at Stanford University, where we are testing a novel treatment for this cancer. In collaboration with the Barron and Sunwoo Labs, our PI and Post Doc investigators are in the process of expanding natural killer (NK) cells and will proceed to test their efficacy against targeted cells including cancer cells. The work includes augmenting innate immunity with specific peptides to enhance their killer qualities. We will include in vitro and in vivo testing and then hope to move into further trials including human trials. Our ultimate goal is to commercialize a treatment for pediatric DMG and DIPG brain cancer patients.
100% of all money in the foundation goes to the research. Gunnar's family pays for all costs associated with running and administering the foundation.
