The shame and depression she feels, watching her children suffer in a world where she cannot protect them, are unbearable.
Their situation is dire. They are forced to move frequently, carrying only one bag of clothes each time. Basic necessities, such as personal hygiene, are a distant luxury. They bathe in contaminated saltwater, which damages their skin and hair, and raises the risk of infections. Baby Ahmed is particularly vulnerable, especially with the ongoing polio outbreak.
