A year ago, Tanya’s life changed. She suffered a brain aneurysm and a stroke on her left side. She was airlifted by life flight to Memorial Herman Hospital in the Medical Center the evening of November 8th. After 5 1/2 hours in surgery the surgeon came out to let us know that the surgery went well. She remained in ICU for 6 weeks and it was touch and go for a several weeks. Tanya was then moved to Kindred Hospital in Sugar Land for a couple of weeks. Then on December 30th they moved her to TIRR Memorial Herman in the Medical Center and there she remained there for the next 5 1/2 months. While there she had two additional surgeries at Memorial Herman Hospital to place a shunt in her brain to regulate the blood flow from the brain, and then another surgery at UT Orthopedic Hospital to loosen the tendons in her right foot. She had intense rehabilitation at TIRR to bring her body and brain back to functioning in normal everyday life. She came home to live with us on May 14th. For the next 4 1/2 months we worked on rehabilitating her body and mind. Her therapist and doctors then said it was time to move her back to TIRR to improve her speech, mobility and brain function. After spending 6 weeks at TIRR she was approved to go to CNS in Webster, there they do therapy for her body and mind so she will be able to function on her own one day. She is also living in a home provided by CNS where they teach her to do things on her own. We do not know how long she will remain there but we have seen improvement already.
She is such a fighter and has been through SO much this past year but she is improving daily. The doctors and therapist are so happy with how far she has come, they were unsure of her outcome. She has had to relearn everything again, and still has a ways to go but Tanya in on the right path now. We love her and can't wait to see what the future holds for her.
