Families who support survivors of sexual abuse are often tasked with managing their trauma related to the harm of their loved one, the financial impact of the abuse and supporting the emotional needs of the child most impacted. This is why I am raising money to support the Kerengende Foundation's Family Grant Program. Please consider a donation of any amount to help me meet my $500 goal!
Sexual abuse is an abuse of power. When a young girl is abused, our communities often misdirect their focus on the behavior of the one who was harmed; therefore, recovering girls and families can face the additional trauma of navigating unskilled or judgmental responses at a time when they need unconditional support and helpful information. Extended family, churches, communities, schools, courts, and police can be well-meaning yet lack information about the effects of sexual trauma on a girl’s development and the impacts on family and community dynamics. Kerengende Foundation is building a warm, accepting platform for families to access resources, information, and support so that our families don’t have to go it alone in their healing.
About the Family Grant Program....
"Being preventive, responsive, and restorative in our care for our girls and their families, the Kerengende Foundation offers small grants to help families absorb the cost of therapy and or other therapeutic resources a family sees fit for their own healing and empowerment. Funded by generous donations, the grants are needs-based and negotiable in terms of one-time or recurring provision."
